Safety Critical medical

It is a health assessment which is a requirement for workers in a ' safety critical role'. This is a role where if physical or mental health is impaired, it could result in an adverse outcome. 

The medical is an in depth assessment. This is to ensure the safety of themselves and others in accordance with The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Asbestos worker

Driver and Mechanical Handling Equipment Operator

Plant Operator ( general,cranedrive/mobile machine driver)

Scaffolder/Rigger

Tunnelling worker

Slinger/Signaller/Banksman/Traffic Marshall

Steel Structural/Fabricator

Steeplejack

Electrician

Diver

LGV/HGV Driver

Roadside worker ( high speed)

Maritime Operative Specialist

Confined space worker

Tunnelling

Working at Heights

Geotechnical

Night shift worker

Any other role which is deemed to be high risk

The medical will take around one hour. It is performed by a doctor with a qualification in Occupational Health. There will be questionnaires regarding physical and mental wellbeing. As well as a physical check the medical includes a hearing test, spirometery ( lung function), Urine test, eye test, colour blind test ( if indicated) .
